G638 Series: The Pet Tracker That Survives Swimming and Lasts Nearly a Month
Cat.M (eMTC) · IP67 · 800mAh · GPS + BDS + GLONASS

Built for markets where Cat.M is the standard
The G638 series is designed from the ground up for international deployment. While the G618 and G608 series serve mainland China and global 4G Cat.1 markets, the G638 runs on Cat.M (eMTC) — the low-power wide-area network standard deployed across North America, Japan, Korea, Australia, and New Zealand.
If your market has mature Cat.M infrastructure, the G638 is the pet tracker in the product line that matches your carrier environment natively. No roaming. No band compatibility issues. No customer-provided SIM gymnastics.
| Model | Network | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| G638G | Cat.M (eMTC) | Full positioning — GPS/BDS/GLONASS + WiFi + BLE + LBS |
| G638BT | Bluetooth only | Short-range companion mode, lowest cost, longest battery |
The Cat.M variant is the full-featured international pet tracker. The Bluetooth-only variant is for pet owners who primarily need close-range tracking — a dog in a neighborhood park, a cat within a garden — and want maximum battery life with zero carrier fees.
IP67: the waterproofing that actually matters for pets
Most pet trackers in this product line are IPX6 — protected against powerful water jets and heavy splashing. That handles rain, a dog shaking off after a pond, a cat caught in a downpour.
The G638 series is IP67. Dust-tight. Submersion-rated to 1 meter for 30 minutes. This is the tracker for a dog that dives into lakes, swims in rivers, or charges through surf. It's the tracker for a working dog on a fishing boat or a farm dog that wades through irrigation channels daily.
What IP67 doesn't mean: Submersion beyond 1 meter depth or 30 minutes is outside the design specification. Salt water is more corrosive than fresh water — rinse the device with fresh water after seawater exposure. The magnetic charging contacts should be dry before charging.
800mAh: the largest battery in the pet tracker range
| Model | Battery | Standby | Normal Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| G618 series | 600mAh | 20+ days | 7+ days |
| G608 series | 600mAh | 20+ days | 7+ days |
| G638 series | 800mAh | 20+ days | Longer than 600mAh equivalents |
The 800mAh cell provides roughly 33% more capacity than the 600mAh used in the other pet trackers. In practice, this extends normal-use battery life beyond a week, and standby beyond three weeks. For a pet that spends long hours outdoors — a farm dog, a free-ranging cat, livestock on open pasture — the extra capacity reduces charging frequency.
Magnetic charging: Same interface as the rest of the product line. One cable charges all devices. Charging time: approximately 2.5 hours from empty to full.
Safe Zone WiFi recognition
The G638 series uses a power-saving feature called Safe Zone recognition. The owner configures known WiFi networks — home, the local park, the veterinarian's office, a regular walking route. When the device detects a recognized WiFi network, it knows the pet is in a safe, known location. Positioning frequency drops. Battery consumption drops with it.
When the device leaves recognized WiFi zones — the pet escapes the yard, wanders beyond the park — positioning frequency increases automatically. The owner receives a notification. The device is not sleeping through an escape. It's conserving battery during normalcy and activating during anomaly.
BLE companion mode
The Cat.M and Bluetooth variants both support BLE companion mode. The device connects directly to the owner's phone via Bluetooth when within range — typically 10-30 meters depending on environment. In companion mode:
Position updates are near-instantaneous (BLE latency, not cellular latency)
No cellular data is consumed
Battery drain is minimal
This is useful for off-leash walking in a park, a dog on a beach, or a cat exploring a garden. The owner's phone becomes the gateway. When the pet moves beyond BLE range, the device falls back to Cat.M for wide-area tracking automatically.
For the Bluetooth-only variant (G638BT), companion mode is the primary tracking method. No cellular. No carrier plan. Just the owner's phone and the device. Ideal for pet owners who never need wide-area tracking and want the absolute lowest cost of ownership.
Multi-constellation GNSS
The G638 series supports three satellite systems: GPS (US), BDS (BeiDou, China), and GLONASS (Russia). This is more than the G618 and G608 series, which support GPS + BDS only.
GLONASS adds value in high-latitude regions — northern US, Canada, northern Europe, northern Japan — where GLONASS satellites provide better coverage angles than GPS alone. For a dog in Alberta or Hokkaido, the third constellation improves fix speed and accuracy in cold, open terrain.
Combined with WiFi fingerprinting (10-50m), cellular LBS fallback, and BLE beacon scanning (1-3m), the G638 series provides reliable positioning across all environments a pet is likely to encounter.

What the G638 series is NOT
Not for mainland China. Cat.M is not deployed by Chinese carriers. For China, use G618G or G608G (4G Cat.1).
No health sensors. For heart rate, SpO2, or temperature, see the G608 series.
SIM card is user-provided per local carrier requirements. No pre-installed IoT SIM on the Cat.M variant.
IP67 is 1-meter submersion for 30 minutes. It is not dive-rated. Rinse after salt water.
Bluetooth-only variant (G638BT) has no cellular connectivity. It works only within BLE range of the owner's phone.
30 grams is heavier than the G618 (25g). The extra weight is battery and waterproofing.
Deployment scenarios
North American suburban pet
A family in Texas deploys a G638G on their Labrador Retriever. The dog swims daily in the backyard pool and a nearby lake. IP67 handles repeated submersion. Safe Zone WiFi at home reduces battery drain during indoor hours. When the dog escapes the yard, WiFi Safe Zone is breached, positioning frequency increases, and the owner receives an alert. GLONASS improves GPS fix speed in the neighborhood's tree-covered areas.
Japanese urban cat
A cat owner in Tokyo uses the G638BT (Bluetooth-only variant). The cat never leaves the neighborhood. BLE companion mode tracks the cat within a 30-meter radius of the owner's phone. No cellular plan. No SIM card. The buzzer helps locate the cat when it hides under a parked car or in a garden shed.
Australian farm working dog
A sheep farmer in Victoria deploys G638G on working Kelpies. The dogs cover kilometers daily across open pasture. 800mAh battery lasts through multi-day mustering runs. IP67 handles creek crossings, water troughs, and rain. GLONASS provides reliable positioning in the southern hemisphere's open terrain. Offline buffering stores tracks through cellular dead zones in valleys and uploads when dogs return to the homestead within Cat.M range.
European multi-country travel
A pet owner in Germany travels regularly to France and the Netherlands with their dog. The G638G operates across European Cat.M networks. A single carrier SIM covers multiple countries under EU roaming agreements. Safe Zone WiFi at the owner's homes in three countries reduces battery drain at each location automatically.
